چکیده

We consider domino tilings of three-dimensional cubiculated manifolds with or without boundary, including subsets of Euclidean space and threedimensional tori. In particular, we are interested in the connected components of the space of tilings of such regions under local moves. Building on the work of the third and fourth authors [19], we allow two possible local moves, the flip and trit. These moves are considered with respect to two topological invariants, the twist and flux. Our main result proves that, up to refinement, • Two tilings are connected by flips and trits if and only if they have the same flux. • Two tilings are connected by flips alone if and only if they have the same flux and twist.

A new conforming mesh generator for three-dimensional discrete fracture networks

Nowadays, numerical modelings play a key role in analyzing hydraulic problems in fractured rock media. The discrete fracture network model is one of the most used numerical models to simulate the geometrical structure of a rock-mass. In such media, discontinuities are considered as discrete paths for fluid flow through the rock-mass while its matrix is assumed impermeable. There are two main pa...

Notes on some Distance-Based Invariants for 2-Dimensional Square and Comb Lattices

We present explicit formulae for the eccentric connectivity index and Wiener index of 2-dimensional square and comb lattices with open ends. The formulae for these indices of 2-dimensional square lattices with ends closed at themselves are also derived. The index for closed ends case divided by the same index for open ends case in the limit N →&infin defines a novel quantity we call compression...

Playing Musical Tiles

In this survey paper, I describe three applications of tilings to music theory: the representation of tuning systems and chord relationships by lattices, modeling voice leading by tilings of n-dimensional space, and the classification of rhythmic tiling canons, which are essentially one-dimensional tilings.

Trading spaces: building three-dimensional nets from two-dimensional tilings.

We construct some examples of finite and infinite crystalline three-dimensional nets derived from symmetric reticulations of homogeneous two-dimensional spaces: elliptic (S (2)), Euclidean (E (2)) and hyperbolic (H (2)) space. Those reticulations are edges and vertices of simple spherical, planar and hyperbolic tilings. We show that various projections of the simplest symmetric tilings of those...

The arctic octahedron phenomenon in three-dimensional codimension-one rhombohedral tilings

We calculate the configurational entropy of codimension-one three-dimensional random rhombus tilings. We use threedimensional integer partitions to represent these tilings. We apply transition matrix Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate their entropy with high precision. We explore freeas well as fixed-boundary conditions and our numerical results suggest that the ratio of freeand fixed-boundary...
